The AKA now has two competition squads; TEAM AKA and AKA DEVELOPMENT JUNIOR TEAM. Competing in karate competitions is not for everyone and to be competitive, team members need to be self starters willing to train regularly and consistently and put in the same effort as the others in the team.
We select those members from our classes who show ability and a keen interest in the challenge of self presented by karate competition. Make no mistake, even in the junior categories, the competition is fierce and intense. It is also safe and enjoyable for those that are well trained and fit. Making the squad is the first step and then retaining your place in the squad is another.
Cheyne and I review the progress of squad members at the end of every term and decide if any will be added or cut from the squad. We don’t make decisions lightly but membership of the squad requires an all out effort to improve. Our team has improved considerably over the short time it has been operating and the members are doing all AKA members proud. Congratulations!
