About the Australian Karate Academy

Bob McMahon, Chief Instructor of the Australian Karate Academy, first started Karate in 1969 in Brisbane. Bob moved to Caloundra and founded a branch of his previous club and went on to produce state and national champions, and was one of the first to teach children. Bob and family moved to Brisbane in 1988 and started the Australian Karate Academy in 1989. Since that time the AKA has produced hundreds of Black Belts and students who have gone on to become state, national and international champions.

The AKA is a private school operated by The McMahon Family Group. The AKA has an experienced team of teachers, including both Bob and Cheyne McMahon (6th and 4th Dan), Amy Triggs (4th Dan), Brendan Triggs (3rd Dan), and Ashley Lovi (1st Dan). With a large number of different classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced students, there is bound to be a time to suit your lifestyle!

Sensei Bob McMahon
Sensei Bob McMahon has been training in karate for almost 40 years, and teaching since 1979. Bob opened the Australian Karate Academy in Brisbane in 1989 and has produced state, national and international champions. Sensei Bob has also created numerous karate and kobudo articles in Martial Art magazines, written booklets, developed a world wide karate journal, and established several internet karate forums. The karate journey for Bob has not finished.

Sensei Cheyne McMahon
Sensei Cheyne McMahon has been involved with karate for more than 20 years through his father Bob. Sensei Cheyne has won numerous state and national titles, and in 1998 won the WKC World Championship in Europe. Cheyne has been heavily influenced by Bob, and has been teaching karate since 1999. He was also the Korean national champion in 2005. Cheyne is married and currently teaches children, teenagers and adults.
