Using my expertise in exercise program design combined with over 20 years of martial arts training - I have created a one-of a kind adult fitness class. The idea of cardio-karate itself is not original – in fact many gyms and other martial arts schools have classes called something similar- but I have created a class format like no other.

It combines the martial arts basics (mostly using
heavy bags and focs mitts) with cardio workouts,
jump ropes, core stabilisation and flexibility
training all in a non-stop, intense, interval
workout.
Our classes burn between 400 – 600 calories per hour and will challenge every major muscle group in your body at the same time. The best part is: you could take my class for years and never repeat the same class format, exercise sequence or combination!
The main reason the Australian Karate Academy can offer this unique program is that our instructors understand that practicing basic martial arts movements (when they are taught and programmed correctly) will lead to incredible fitness benefits.
Most other adult fitness programs are limited to simple exercises – squats, lunges, crunches, push-ups etc. Those movements are all effective, but if that is all you’ve got, the workouts will eventually become stale.
Consider this example – a squat vs. a side kick. Squats are great for building strength in the quadriceps and hamstrings, but they will not help develop flexibility or balance. In contrast, a side kick will develop hamstring flexibility, hip and quad strength, and balance at the same time. Slamming the heavy bag with a side kick raises your heart rate a lot more than squatting, and it is a lot more fun!
