Last weekend we took down four athletes to Sydney to compete against Australia’s best karate athletes. In fact, there were National teams from New Zealand, PNG, Fiji, and New Caladonia!

AND, we were lucky enough to win 1 Gold, 1 Bronze, and a few 4th places!

Oscar Kawamata won his kumite event, and also gained a bronze in the Open kumite! Well done to Oscar! His brother Hugo fought off for a bronze medal in his kumite event and at full time was equal on points, but unfortunately lost 3-2 in the flag count. Hugo was also unlucky in the kata, lost out to the eventual winner.

Grace Kruger fought extremely hard, and again lost out for a bronze medal in her weight division. Grace has only been involved in competitions for a little over 2 years and has come a long way.

Revsan Ahmetoglu suffered a blood nose and was penalised out of contention in the Open division. He fought well, and tried hard!

All in all it was a long three days in Sydney, and Team AKA did very well.

We will be back next year, bigger and better!
