I finally heard back from my Korean Karate friend, Sangsoo. He organised for the Korean Karate Federation (http://www.karatedo.or.kr/) and myself to have a brief chat on Friday 17th of July to work out what I will be teaching. Apparently there will be a few seminars by myself and other teachers on the 18th and 19th of July. It will be interesting to see what the other guys do. Unfortunately my friend can’t make it to any of the seminars as he is about 6 hours away at university.
I am leaning more towards teaching kumite, but more specific the momentum punches. I haven’t seen anyone else (apart from Mitani Sensei’s students of course) teach it, or conciously use it in sparring. When we first learnt how to do the punch(es) it was really hard to change your muscle memory as we were so used to pushing off our backfoot first, and then punching, rather than the other way round. It will be interesting to see how quickly these guys pick it up.
Busan is the 2nd largest city in South Korea with around 4 million people. It is a pretty big city, both in size and people. Yesterday Sunha and I went to the largest department store in the world — Shinsegae Centum City. It is pretty big, and even has an ice rink on the 5th floor.
Stay tuned for more!
