Last weekend the Australian Karate Federation held the 2015 National Karate Championships in Adelaide. There were a record number of entries from all around Australia, with the AKA being represented by Revsan Ahmetoglu, Mark Beard, Grace Kruger, Oscar Kawamata, and Matthew West.

Oscar Kawamata claimed a Silver in the Junior Male Kumite, and a Bronze in Team Kumite. Mark Beard won a Bronze in the Male over 45 years Kumite. Revsan Ahmetoglu also collected a Bronze in the Men’s Team Kumite event.

Grace Kruger narrowly missed out on a medal having fought off for a Bronze in the Junior Female Kumite. Matthew West was questionably disqualified in the Cadet Male Kumite after winning his first bout, and ahead on points in the second bout when he was disqualified.

All in All the Australian Karate Academy was well represented with everyone trying their hardest!

Next year will be a bigger year, and there will be a big push to get the more and more AKA students onto the Queensland Team.
